Hey :). Thanks for this - it gives me more ideas for what to read this year - because I didn't have enough unread books on my shelves (or, more accurately, in my friend's basement) already. I've read many of McEwan's works already and like the sound of The Children Act. Have heard very good things about The Glass Castle too.
ITA that Middlemarch is underrated, although my father was very disappointed by the ending - which I thought was more realistic, if less satisfying, than those of, say, Austen's novels.
I didn't get Mrs. Dalloway at all the first couple of times I read it - only appreciated it more on this last reading, perhaps because I am also looking back on my life so far and finding it wanting.
I love the humor in The Lies of Locke Lamora and sequels. They are the literary equivalent of your basic blockbuster heist flick, though.
