Pete continues to struggle with fatherhood of Joel (partly because of his lack of taking the initiative I think, partly because Wilson/Rachel/Cuddy keep taking over) while being an adult influence in Rachel's life without anyone seemingly noticing it - much less himself.
And Cuddy's career is seemingly on a downward trajectory as it has been since 'the car incident' - saving Wilson's life has not come without a heavy cost to her sadly. The least both Pete and Wilson can do is help her in whatever she needs.
And of course Wilson sabotaging Cuddy/Chris is... manipulative Wilson at his best. One can't blame him for not wanting Chris around his little family but again Cuddy pays the price.
Having done the 'Duncan' rewatch this week I appreciate this fic as a counterpoint to the 'Wilson wouldn't be a good father' crap :) (Although one senses that young Joel is going to walk all over him giving half a chance... )
