I do wonder what the subtext of Wilson's mother is. I see her as a woman who allowed societal expectations to force her into the role of homemaker, although she was eminently unsuitable for the task. I know a few women like that: how the heck do you preserve your self-esteem and inner equilibrium if you suck at the only occupation that you have?
I'm afraid the next chapter takes us back to Philadelphia.
