Actually, it's ... complicated. Wilson is realising that his past wasn't quite the way he remembers it. It's more of a goodbye to his illusions and to any hope that his family will be able to solve his problems. Not a game changer, since Wilson's family hasn't featured either in canon or in this AU, but it's Wilson's change in attitude that is important. His main issue with House ever since The Kelpie was the way House distanced himself from his past. Now Wilson is forced to do the same, and that helps him to accept House's attitude.

The contrast to his family was probably what attracted Wilson to her when he was younger.
