“It’s — complicated,” Wilson says, rubbing the back of his neck as he wonders how to talk his way out of this one. Then it strikes him that there’s no need to talk his way out of it. There’s no reason not to tell Melanie the whole story, because she isn’t part of this giant fuck-up and therefore can’t benefit or come to harm from knowing the truth.

I love this bit - after two and a half stories of everyone spinning different stories, and half truths, and outright lies, this is Wilson's epiphany. I can tell the truth! And of course Melanie soaks it up - gist to the writer's mill!

I enjoyed meeting Melanie very much. I can't see I enjoyed meeting Wilson's parents as much (talk about awkward conversation!) but now I have a greater understanding of why we never saw them or really had mention of them in the show :) It's sad that Wilson sees no future in his or Joel's relationship with his parents, but that's the way it goes sometimes. And Joel still has his totally screwed up dysfunctional 'family' to care about him.
