Ummmn, no, that would not be a legitimate response. So, why is the flashback in this chapter and not part of Days 3 and 4 where it belongs, where it could be integrated seamlessly and be written in the same tense as the rest of the fic?
Because Cuddy has no business turning up on the scene as yet if one sticks strictly to the Shakespearean original, which is the task I set myself. On the other hand I needed to explain where she is and why House is so pessimistic about their relationship, so I compromised and incorporated Cuddy in the flashback. The sensible thing to do would have been to abandon Shakespeare to his devices and do my thing, but unfortunately I'm almost as obsessive as House is - once I'm confronted with a puzzle, I need to solve it, if necessary at the cost of beauty and style.
But no, there's no way I'm warming up any part of this fic. I had serious reservations about publishing it at all. The only thing that kept me from tearing up my notes and deleting the files was the massive amount of work that I put into it before I finally realized that it has no intentions whatsoever of doing what I want it to.
It is good to know that my feeling that the flashback is a major problem in this fic is being confirmed. It shows me that my gut feelings regarding what I've written are correct. Thank you very much for bothering to point this out. Most people, myself included, don't point out weaknesses for fear of stepping on someone's bunions or out of sheer laziness.
