My problem with the lullaby is that it's used for very young children (preschoolers and the like). Not the HP reading age.
Good point with reading aloud being a cultural thing. I'm working class and peasant stock, my grandparents were barely literate. My husband comes from a much more educated family and his mother read aloud to him and his brothers. I think you're quite right there.
