First of all, major points for giving Nolan such a great end line. gain, love your Nolan, the way he can play with House/Pete to get him to stay.

House was about to propose
This seems to me totally wishful thinking on Cuddy's part, but it is a possible direction in which he could have gone. Again, it's not what I would consider a likely evolution of his character, but at least you do give an explanation of what might have been his motives.

The last few chapters show a side of Cuddy I don't much like, her continual need of putting limits: this he did, this I did. That was my choice, that was his. It's a side which is there, but it leads me to have very little sympathy - although of course, it made her an admirable boss.

Nolan also has a double side - he's honest, but then he's not, and he jeopardizes Wilson's recovery to treat House. Of course, again, with the philosophy "if Wilson chooses to get fucked up by meeting House it's his problem not mine" he has a get-out-of-jail-free card, but again, sympathy? Zero.

No wonder Pete is willing to agree to what he correctly views as prison to get, so to speak, his memory back. The perfect bait to lure him in. Believable to the utmost.
