On reading this chapter it strikes me that I've been subconciously assuming that Pete is still attracted to Cuddy in the way that House was, in an obsessive sense. Which of course, as the story has show us, when I think about it, he is not. I think I needed Cuddy to lay that out as plainly as she does here, Pete is not House, who seemed to be viewing Cuddy as his last chance at happiness and salvation.

I've never really given much thought to Cuddy's motivation for breaking up with House, because honestly, doctor boyfriend making himself scarce while I'm going through health scare would have been enough for me. (and I was so happy that the disaster of a 'romance' was over that I didn't really care what excuse she used). I like your/her reasoning here.

Nolan is going to have his hands full with Pete, considering the amnesia. I do wonder how much use his notes will be to Pete, first because I'm not sure Nolan ever really got to grips with House and second because the man in those notes really isn't Pete - it's our experiences that make us up and Pete has had none of those experiences. Still, I can understand Pete's curiosity about them and they make a good bargaining chip for something I think he had decided to do anyway.
