He can't connect to all of his issues because he hasn't experienced them
That was my idea in giving him amnesia: to give him an opportunity to step back and see his previous life with all its ups and downs objectively and decide for himself which parts of it he wants to keep and which to jettison. Doesn't mean he always makes good decisions ...

I liked the friendly/flirty vibe that followed after he 'dumped' her because it reminded of the time previous to their hookup; I thought they were fine that way,
it really was another way to say House was messed up beyond redemption,
One of my (many) issues with the way their relationship in S6/7 was portrayed was that House saw himself as inferior and acted accordingly, which in turn influenced how Cuddy treated him. (Don't even get me started on what they did to Cuddy's character in S7.) When their relationship was entirely a working one House felt in no way inferior to Cuddy; if anything, he felt superior, but only acted on that when Cuddy interfered in his work. As a result their working life functioned pretty well. Since my story only goes AU at the end of S7, I have to take Cuddy's behaviour there as a given. [I should have gone AU at the end of S6, like Stenveny ...] This is my take on a relationship where both are equal because Pete has no reason to see himself as a burden and won't allow Cuddy to trample all over him.

I haven't seen S8 but I believe that from being a thought-provoking series it went to just being really depressing. Not that I only like happy endings, but.
I only started watching about halfway through the season, after reading enough comments to be thoroughly 'spoiled'. It's okay, but it doesn't occupy me the way it used to. Sometimes I forget that episodes are airing, and I'm not really invested in House anymore.

Out of curiosity, how long did you take in writing it?
Seven months. I started last August, wrote almost half of it (over 60,000 words) during a four-week vacation, and then got clobbered by RL and took over five months to complete the rest. One sort of notices that the first part is lighter than the second one - the benign influence of vacations.
